Song Sample: “Oh What a Beautiful Mornin’”

This is a non-equity production. All roles are open. PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A FOUR-WEEK RUN from July 9, 2009-August 2nd, 2009. Four shows per week, Thurs.-Sat. 8p and Sundays at 2p. Rehearsals will start on May 10th and will generally be for 3 hours on Tuesdays at 7 pm, Thursdays at 7pm and Sundays at 5pm until tech week. Some additional dance/music rehearsals may be required. Detailed rehearsal schedule will be available shortly.
NOTE: Oklahoma is a musical in large part about the themes of our country as home and a look at the culture of a people making a new home in a soon to be new state. As such the musical should reflect the beauty of our country’s multi-cultural heritage - Native Americans, African-Americans, Asian Americans, Latin Americans and more. The director is committed to casting without regard to race, color or national origin and performers of all ethnicities and colors are encouraged to audition.
We are seeking strong singers that ideally have dance experience. Also seeking strong dancers with ballet experience. Ages 16 and up please. If under 18 years of age please have a parent or guardian contact the director for an audition time and consent to participate in this production. Please prepare a musical selection and bring sheet music in the correct key. Accompanist will be provided. No a cappella or recorded accompaniment please. Dress comfortably for dance/movement portion of the audition. Auditions will consist of individual vocal auditions. Singers will then be combined into small groups for dance/movement auditions.

ROLE DESCRIPTIONS
AUNT ELLER MURPHY- Mezzo (G 3 – F 5 )...Age 40-up. Light dancing. A middle-aged down-to-earth 'mother to everyone'. She is Laurey's aunt and confidante, and has a very friendly personality.
CURLY MCCLAIN- Baritone (C 3 – F 4)...Age 25 - 40. Light dancing. Handsome, rugged, charming. The young cowman in love with Laurey. His heart is in the right place and he is strong in facing up to Jud.
LAUREY WILLIAMS- Soprano (C 4 – A 5 )...Age 18-35. Beautiful, but also a tough and independent tomboy who can hold her own with men. Still with a vulnerable side. Ideally should be strong dancer.
WILL PARKER - Tenor (D 3 – F 4)...Age 18-35. Strong dancer. A hapless young cowman who is very much in love with Ado Annie. He has a pleasant happy-go-lucky disposition, but needs to assert himself strongly to get her full attention.
ADO ANNIE CARNES - Mezzo/Soprano (C 4 – F 5 )...Age 18-35. Light dancer. A flirtatious and slightly promiscuous girl who cannot resist men, particularly if a wedding ring is in prospect.
JUD FRY - Baritone/Bass (D 2 – D♭ / C# 4)...Age 35-50. The hired hand on Laurey's farm. Sullen, mysterious and dangerous. Nobody likes him and he lives a lonely depressive existence in the smokehouse, dreaming broodily of real women, not the pin-ups on his walls.
ALI HAKIM - Age 25-50. A Persian peddler and a shrewd salesman. A great one for the girls, but not too adept at avoiding shotguns!
IKE SKIDMORE - Baritone (D 3 – G♭ / F# 4) ...Age 35-65...A ranch-house cowman.
SLIM and FRED - Baritones...Ages 18-40...Cowman friends of Ike and Curly's.
GERTIE CUMMINGS - Age 18-35...Another flirt whose presence is always announced by her ear-piercing laugh. Like Annie, she just wants to get married to someone.
ELLEN, KATE, SYLVIE,ARMINA, AGGIE - Ages 17-35...A group of fun-loving farmer's daughters who form the ensemble at the Box Social and the ballet at the end of Act One.
ANDREW CARNES - Tenor ( F 3 – F 4 )... Age 40-65...Ado Annie’s, gruff and gun-toting father who is anxious to see his daughter married off....to someone with the proper dowry. He is also the local judge.
CORD ELAM - Baritone (G♭/ F♯ 2 - A4)...Age 25-65. A cowman and the Marshall.
